As we had promised you last month, here we are, bringing you an exclusive inside view of the characters from the world of DRONA, rather the DRONA family. Once again we have it from Jaydeep Sarkar, the script and dialogue writer of DRONA, who was instrumental in bringing the characters of Queen Jayati Devi (Jaya Bachchan), the wicked wizard Riz Raizada (Kay Kay Menon), the sultry soldier Sonia (Priyanka Chopra) and of course Aditya/Drona (Abhishek Bachchan) to life.

So, dear Jaydeep please go take over!

Queen Jayati Devi (Jaya Bachchan):–

Queen Jayati Devi is the fulcrum of the epic that is DRONA. And even though, Queen Jayati's presence in the film is limited, it is by delving into her character and understanding her soul that we got to the heart of the film.

In the great stories of wars and battles, I have always been fascinated by the women who stay silently in the background, but sacrifice the most. Queen Jayati Devi's character is an ode to those great women. Their resilience, their unconditional love is what inspired the character of Queen Jayati, a woman who stands poised at the heart of an eternal war, as a symbol of courage and sacrifice, a woman who has always put her duty before her emotions.

It's for the first time ever that Jaya Bachchan plays mother to Abhishek Bachchan in Hindi cinema. And in the scene where they meet for the first time in DRONA, I dare to promise you one of the most memorable moments in Indian cinema ever.

An interesting trivia to share at this point would be that Queen Jayati's name was actually derived from Jaya ji's name by Rohini Killough. When Jayaji came to the sets, she brought with her great warmth, warmth that has beautifully transported itself into the film. A warmth that I am sure will touch the audiences too.

There are few moments in the lives of everyone which we remember vividly, forever. The smell of that moment, the air around you, the light... every detail. When Jaya ji spoke the words that I had written, for the first time on the sets of DRONA, is one such moment that I will remember forever and ever.
