Mahinder Kapoor: Voice of patriotism moves to annals of history

Mahinder Kapoor was last of the icons in the annals of playback singing in the male category who left for his heavenly abode, and along with him an era in the Indian play back singing ended, which was characterized by playback singing for an actor predominantly, and associated group secondarily.

Though he had been in the business of playback singing for quite a long time, once he came to be associated with providing playback singing for Manoj Kumar he came into his own. He brought so much passion into his rendition, that his voice created a nationalist fervor, whenever it played. The nodes have such intensity that even the Prime Minister of the country, Lal Bahadur Shastri could not control his tears when he heard the songs of UPKAAR. Manoj Kumar was right when he said that he had lost his voice.

Surviving at a time when Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore were the triumvirate in the play back singing in India, Mahinder Kapoor really came into his own when he emerged as the voice of Manoj Kumar. His voice was able to create such yearning for the country among the Diaspora after PURAB AUR PASCHIM that it still continues to be a reality check when the Indians start forgetting the virtues that our great country has.

He was one singer who sang maximum songs under the baton of the singer Ravi, and by proxy for the banner of B.R. Chopra. No wonder when NIKAAH was made by B.R. Chopra after a long time, the world rediscovered Mahinder Kapoor with the song '' Abhi Alvida Mat Kaho Doston''... which is the swan song of the prom night of all the college parties in the country, as also the farewell functions.

He was also one of the rare singers who emerged as the voice of Marathi cinema as he sang maximum number of songs for the Marathi super star Dada Kondke.

Indeed, his swan song from NIKAAH'' Abhi Alvida...Khwabon mein hi ho Chahe mulakat to hogi''... indeed meetings with his voice would continue to be made even though the venue may be in dreams.
